Erasmus Policy Statement

IES ZARAOBE BHI Institutua is a Vocational Polytechnic working on the fields of industrial maintenance, tool machinery
and social care. The participation in International projects is recorded in our strategic and in our annual plan with the
following philosophy:
“Starting from our own personality, we will be open to different cultures and languages and we will give support to the
necessary relationships to reach this target, improving our student´s skills to obtain a unique European labour market.”
Since 2000, IES ZARAOBE BHI Institutua has been involved every year in developing Intenational Projects. More
than 60 students and teachers from IES ZARAOBE BHI Institutua have had the chance to take part in these mobility
projects through these12 years.
After all this years, working with our student´s in the field of the companies training, in 12 month´s stays, with Ikaslan
and projects of our own. And as a result of relations with European techniques schools, our next aim is to improve the study
and placement mobilities for our students and teachers as a sending and as a receiving partner.

Our first intention was to increase the number of students involved in European projects and their interest in this kind of
programs. In order to achieve this objective, we started a project with VIDRALA SA, a multinational company set up in our
region, Italy, Portugal and Belgium. This collaboration was especially attractive for our students to satisfy their work needs
in a local company, by taking part in an Erasmus practice program. Then we extended this experience to other
multinational companies in our area which we collaborate nowadays.
The second step was to improve the quality of the mobilities, so we promoted the direct management, and the control of
the process. Regarding to the human resources needed for the proper development of the project, “IES ZARAOBE BHI
institutua” named a staff of two people for International Projects who is in contact with international coordinators from the
rest of the Polytechnics from the Basque Country and IKASLAN. He ensures all the contacts with the partners and gives
information to the rest of the staff and students in the international committee about the projects. He is in charge of the
proper use of all the tools designed for the control of the project and will organize the plans for evaluating and
dissemination of the result.
When the number of the mobilities raised, we had the necessity to keep in touch with new intermediate partners as
Italymobility, Irish Education Partners, Amadeus Association y Atlas Nova. Anyway our institution always has the control of
the management and the situation of the mobilities. We were seeking new countries with a high technological level and
industrial tradition, and high quality of the training period’s philosophy.

In this new Lifelong Programme (2014-2021) after the consolidation of the project, our aim is to develop new fields with new
International cooperation and partnerships. With this aim we obtained the Extended Erasmus Charter, last year.
Nowadays we are promoting collaboration with other training centers of the European Community, giving priority to schools
that offer training cycles similar or equal to ours. There are already preliminary agreements with two schools, the Social-og
Sundhedsskolen of Denmark and the Lycee Gustaff Eiffel in Narbonne, France. Lycee Gustaff Eiffel visited our center and
Inauxa Company last January. Soon we will see foreign students in our classrooms and companies and vice versa. In
addition to that, this year we will start working with another partner net in a working group with members from Denmark,
Sweden, Austria, Turkey and Czech Republic. We want to share experiences and learn around issues of common interest.
Our interest field is located in the European Union. It isn’t priority choosing a specific country as opposed to a common
interest, the use of one language, the quality of the experience, etc.
As general goal: Opening the project to new partners, new countries, increasing the groups of mobility, new experiences,
looking for a better quality.

After some years, obtaining a consolidated project in the field of multinational companies’ cooperation and intermediate
partners. We developed the next tasks:
- Publicizing of grants.
- Selection of students according to academic results and language level.
- Writing of C.V. and Letter of intents - Several meetings with promoters, students and co-ordinator to inform about
receiving countries/companies.
- Organizing language courses.
- Final meeting before departure to hand out rules to be followed during their stay, insurance policies and plane tickets.
- Tutorization of students during their stay.
- On returning, with the necessary documents signed by the company abroad. If the results are positive, their training
period will be validated here by the Basque Country Educational Authorities
- The Co-ordinator at school applies for the Europass for every beneficiary of the European grant Finally.
From now the school will try to strengthen the international cooperation projects. To do that, we have developed during the
last year, with very specific criteria a searching for partners. We have prioritized the common interests with them and we
have shared the same workspace. To do that some documents were designed in order to search some partners.

We are now; in a phase of collaboration definition trying to respond to the interests we had set:
- Collaborative searching. Exchange of students, teacher’s mobility for studies and teaching.
- Technological innovation in relation to the cycle of mechatronics in fields such as predictive maintenance, vibration
analysis.
- Consolidate and support our trilingual project.
- Interaction (our students and students abroad) with students through projects.
- Vocational training`s common interest fields for us like: dropouts, education based on projects, the use of minority
languages, constructionism in the education.
- To work in partner nets.

1.If our school has developed a strategy to enhance the mobility, is because the value that this mobility has given us has
been high. We have achieved a high quality in our period trainings ... collaborating with companies with high technological
value. The added value of the experience makes increase the students´ brave. We train people in a more full way.
Educational value is added to conventional practices.
2. Traditionally the vocational training school has not had a good image in our region. Our school made a strategy for
quality as a tool for image improvement of our education system. We are aware that those mobilities will improve our
students´ quality image. It gives prestige to the institution and enhances its image.
To improve the quality by establishing a comprehensive evaluation system .This helps to improve the performance of
students, teachers and administrators. Increasing the quality of education should result in lower attrition rate and should
increase the efficiency at this educational level.
To increase the coverage among the school-age population in middle and upper secondary education, by expanding the
offer of quality educational services.
To improve the linkages between the educational provision and the needs of the country's productive factories.
To guarantee the free movement of students between modalities and subsystems.
3.Erasmus offers to students the opportunity to expand their educational, cultural, social and linguistic ambitions, helps to
improve and enhance the professional career of students and to strengthen the learning they received. The positive
competition that occurs between people of different educational background promotes continuous quality improvement in
the workplace and in school. Apart from that mobility is a necessary step in the personal construction which involves
incorporating the international dimension in all aspects of training and performance in the same building.

4. Our institution is located in a rural area where agriculture and cattle industry have great importance. Our students are
not used to experience around the actual world. In contrast to this situation, we can find big multinational companies which
are very important in the local economy. European projects, began with the idea to respond to companies seeking
professionals with high skills, both linguistic and professional. Today we have achieved an added value in the education of
our students, in connection with a business response and further development to the region.
5. Control of budgets, finding all kind of funding. We try to optimize the expenses in order to give higher quality motilities.
In this type of management we are aware that a higher price does not mean better quality.
Erasmus is an investment that has a direct bearing on our society.
